Intro to Film vs. Digital

Bob Boyd’s love of people informs every aspect of his photography, from the way he runs his business to the images he creates with every snap of the shutter. But don’t be fooled by the man’s easygoing nature: His skill in capturing a subject’s essence whether it is a newborn, a family or a blushing bride has made him one of the most successful portrait and wedding photographers in North Carolina and throughout the world. Always modest, he says “it isn’t often that you can make a wonderful life for you and your family doing something that you truly love.”

Soon after opening his Durham business in 1972, Bob became active in the Professional Photographers of North Carolina (PPNC), and to this day the native tarheel still gives that association credit for much of his success. As a PPNC member, he served on many committees and was president from 1991-92.

Bob awards span state, regional and national competitions, and include the Kodak Gallery Award and the Fuji Masterpiece Award. In 1983, he received his Master of Photographer Degree from PPA and the following year earned his Craftsman Degree and Certification. Since then he has received the distinguished Fellowship Degree from North Carolina, (PPNC).

Bob channels his insatiable enthusiasm and love for the craft in two ways: Being an avid, lifelong student and by being a gracious teacher. Many of this techniques and much of his business savvy, he says, have come from studying under some of the nation’s finest portrait and wedding photographers, and business consultants. So he readily passes on any tips and paths to success to others by participating in local, state, and national programs. For the past 17 years teaching at the prestigious East Coast School Photographic Workshops in Raleigh, North Carolina.
